Part II Organizational Structure

Section 5

Holy Spirit Ministries is currently working on bylaws and such an article has not yet been approved.  The following is how officers, directors, and / or trustees are appointed:

The original board members were set forth in the incorporation articles.  All other officers, directors, or trustees, are to be nominated for office by a current board member in good standing and approved by the president or vice president and voted in by a majority vote from the existing board members.

Part IV Narrative Description of Your Activities:

In the past the ministry was headed by the President, Howard J. Stiefel.  With Mr. Stiefel as the head or main speaker or teacher, the ministry traveled mainly around Northeastern Iowa.  The ministry was involved in helping to start many churches in the smaller towns around the WaterlooCedar Falls area.  In addition to helping the new churches, the ministry (again Howard Stiefel as main teacher) would hold seminars in both private bible studies in the homes of individuals who requested them, and in classes held in public religious establishments.  These seminars revolved around the teachings of Paul found in the book of 1 Corinthians, of the Holy Bible, which deals with the gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit, and how to use these gifts to help individuals as well as the church and the community as a whole.  When not on the road the ministry held church services of it’s own at the address of 119 Milwaukee Avenue, Waterloo, Iowa 50707.  This address is also the former address of the original incorporation of the ministry filed in July 29, 1985.  At this time the ministry had a staff of six volunteer workers.  The income of the ministry at the time was mostly from private donations, and in cases where seminars were held in religious establishments income came from a percentage of the establishment’s income gained during those meetings.  In 1989 the required annual report was not filed and the ministry was place into an inactive status.

In the present, on January 22, 2003 incorporation papers were filed reactivating the status of the ministry, the president remained to be Howard J. Stiefel, and the Vice President was listed as H. Jeremy Stiefel.  The Vice President is now the main active officer of the ministry.  Currently a ministry web site is being developed which has a weekly devotion written by H. Jeremy Stiefel, there are links to current events such as bible studies and soon to be events where we will be traveling to and ministering to.  This time the ministry is not limiting its range to just Northeastern Iowa but is planning to travel throughout the United States.  Currently H. Jeremy Stiefel is holding weekly religious services at 108 South Street in Rowley, Iowa (this address is subject to change as it is only a temporary place until a permanent place of worship can be established.  Currently the ministry is running a small prison ministry where we write and minister to prisoners via mail, and are also supplying material needs, such as shoes etc., when needed and funds are available to do so.  The ministry currently has eleven volunteer workers including the president and vice president.  A school to train ministers is also being established with two students currently working toward licensing.  These classes are being taught by H. Jeremy Stiefel.  At the present time there is no tuition and any supplies needed are being furnished by the students and/or the general fund of the ministry.  At the time of filing this report a book written by H. Jeremy Stiefel is being edited for publishing, this book is a instructional book written based on the sermon notes of Howard J. Stiefel that were used for the seminars of the early ministry years.  A workbook and possibly an audio recording are also being prepared to supplement this book for classroom purposes.  The ministry is currently being supported solely by private donations.

Future plans for the ministry include the development of “teams” consisting of ministers licensed through the ministry who will go out and assist religious establishments and small private bible studies in learning to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as establish youth groups and children’s ministries, or how to better the individual ministries already at work in the establishments.  It is in the vision to hold meetings in religious facilities as well as in public forums such as town parks, the back yards of private people, etc.  Although help is available to religious facilities, i believe that the emphasis of our ministry will be on small private groups and helping to establish there leadership and showing them how there groups can help the local religious establishments.

Although the filing date for Corporation was on January 22, 2003, business and income did not start until the beginning of the year 2005, and therefore there is no income or expenses for the previous years.  Since the last year in the balance sheet showed this fact with all values of 0, there is a difference as there is income and expense for the current year of 2005.  See Part IX Financial Data Section A Statement of Revenue and Expenses.

Schedule A. Churches

Section 1a

The following is a copy of the Doctrine of Holy Spirit Ministries and it gives our statement of faith and a summery of our beliefs.

The Doctrine of Holy Spirit Ministries

  • The Scriptures:  The bible is the inspired Word of God, the product of Holy men of old who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.  The New Covenant, as recorded in the New Testament, we accept as our perfect guide in matters regarding conduct and doctrine (2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:21).

  • The Godhead:  Our God is one, but manifested in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, being coequal (Deuteronomy 6:4; Philippians 2:6).  God the Father is greater than all; the Sender of the Word (Logos) and the Begetter (John 14:28; John 16:28; John 11:14).  The Son is the Word flesh-covered, the One Begotten, and has existed with the Father from the beginning (John 1:1; John 1:18; John 1:14). The Holy Spirit proceeds forth from the Father and He testifies of the Son and is eternal (John 14:16; John 15:26).

  • Man, His Fall and Redemption:  Man is a created being, made in the likeness and image of God, but through Adam’s disobedience and fall, sin came into the world.  The Bible says “… all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,” and “ … there is none righteous, no not one” (Romans 3:10 and 3:23).  Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was manifested to undo the works of the devil and gave His life and shed His Blood to redeem and restore man back to God (Romans 5:14; 1 John 3:8).

Salvation is the gift of God to man, separate from works and the Law, and is made operative by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, producing works acceptable to God. (Ephesians 2:8-10).

  • Eternal Life and the New Birth:  Man’s first step toward salvation is godly sorrow that causes repentance.  The New Birth is necessary to all men, and when experienced, produces eternal life (2 Corinthians 7:10; John 3:3-5; 1 John 5:12).

  • Water Baptism:  Baptism in water is by immersion, is a direct commandment of our Lord, and is for believers only.  The act of baptism is a symbol of the Christian’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12; Acts 8:36-39).

  • Baptism in the Holy Spirit:  The Baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire is a gift from God as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ to all believers and is received following to the new birth.  This experience is accompanied by the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit Himself gives utterance (Matthew 3:11; John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:38-39; Acts 19:1-7; Acts 2:1-4).

  • Sanctification:  The Bible teaches that without holiness no man can see the Lord.  We believe in the Doctrine of Sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the new birth and continuing until Christ’s return (Hebrews 12:14; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 2 Peter 3:18; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Philippians 3:12-14; 1 Corinthians 1:30).

  • Divine Healing:  Healing is for the physical ills of the human body and is brought by the power of God through the prayer of faith, and by the laying on of hands.  It is provided for the atonement of Christ, and is the privilege of every member of the Church today.  It is also God’s power which proves His existence and the authority of His Son, Jesus Christ.  (James 5:14-15; Mark 16:18; Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:17; 1 Peter 2:24)4:16-

  • Resurrection of the Just and the Return of the Lord:  The angels said to Jesus’ disciples, “… This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen Him go into heaven.”  His coming is imminent.  When He comes, “… The dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air…”  (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

Following the Tribulation, He shall return to earth as King of kings, and Lord of lords, and together with His saints, who shall be kings and priests, He shall reigh a thousand years (Revelation 5:10 and 20:6).

  • Hell and Eternal Retribution:  The one who physically dies in his sins without accepting Christ is hopelessly and eternally lost in the lake of fire and, therefore, has no further opportunity of hearing the Gospel or repenting.  The lake of fire is literal.  The terms “eternal” and “everlasting,” used in describing the duration of the punishment of the damned in the lake of fire, carry the same thought and meaning of endless existence as used in denoting the duration of joy and ecstasy of saints in the Presence of God (Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 19:20).

Section 1b “Form of Worship”

John 4:24 says “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”  We worship with songs of praise, with prayer, and by teaching and learning from the Word of God, the Holy Bible.  The songs of praise and prayer are “in Spirit” and the teaching from the Bible is “in Truth”.  The participation in the Lord’s Supper or Communion is also a part of our worship habits.

Section 2a Code of doctrine or discipline

John 13:34 Says “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”  This is the main doctrine or discipline that our members and volunteers are expected to live by.  There are many scriptures in the New Testament of the Holy Bible that show us how to do this, and it is not expected for one to know all, but for one to attempt to learn and be open to being corrected if a senior minister finds a need to correct them. All volunteers and ministers are expected to respect all races, religions, and creeds, all men and women on this earth are created by God and deserve to be respected and loved, unconditionally just as Jesus loved us!

Section 2b Do you have a distinct religious history?

See Part IV “Narrative Description of Your Activities” for the history.

Section 2c Do you have literature of your own?

Yes, the ministry has a published doctrine that can be found publicly on our web site, as well as a book on the Gifts of the Spirit, and many forms of worksheets for learning purposes and printed sermons, as well as published “devotions” which can also be found on our web site.

Section 3 Describe the organization’s religious hierarchy

The hierarchy of Holy Spirit Ministries starts with God, every word and action is to be held accountable to the Bible, and the Holy Spirit.  From this point the President of the Ministry to the Vice President, then after the Vice President will be the board or directors and the ministers who work with or under the authority of the Ministry.  In the event that the ministry feels that there is a large enough amount of ministers, a bishop or regional director will be appointed over a group of ministers.

Section 4a Scheduled Religious Services

At the present time religious services are held at the address of 108 South Street in Rowley, Iowa.  They begin at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday Evenings and usually dismiss around 8:30 P.M.  From about 6:15 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. we have a social time while people are arriving for the meeting.  At 6:30 we begin with a session of praise and worship that lasts between twenty to thirty minutes.  At the present time the worship is led by the pastor (H. Jeremy Stiefel) on an acoustic guitar.  After the praise and worship we have an opening prayer.  After the opening prayer any announcements are made and any questions about those announcements are answered.  The next thing on the agenda is a lesson which is given based on the Word of God.  After the lesson we have a closing prayer and then dismiss.   After dismissal there is a time when the pastor is present to answer any personal questions, or just to socialize with the congregation.

Section 8a Do you have a process by which an individual becomes a member?

After an individual shows an interest in becoming a member and they have attended meetings or services enough to prove they know and understand how the ministry operates, they can then request to meet with their minister and if the minister feels they understand and know how the ministry operates he/she can have them added to our membership list.

Section 8b What rights to members have?

Members of the ministry do not have a right to vote, only the board has that right.  They do however have the right to express their opinions and have those opinions weighed and seriously considered by the board before a vote.  The majority of our board meetings are open to all members who whish to attend, except when announced otherwise at the decision of the president or vice president of the ministry.  Members are free to participate in all religious activities held or sponsored by the Ministry.

Section 11a Do you have a minister or religious leader?

The ministry does have a head minister or pastor, this person’s role is to be responsible for holding weekly services, ministering to the members of the church and anyone else who may ask for help through the church.  He/She does not have to personally minister to all, but is responsible to see that a qualified person visits with all who contact the church and request visitation.  The minister is responsible for any religious practices such as, but not limited to, baptisms, weddings, funerals, communion, and teaching.  This minister must be ordained or licensed.  If ordained or licensed through Holy Spirit Ministries, Inc. he/she must complete a two year internship which includes completing a minimum of four written assignments, as well as perform or teach in any meeting or service as deemed necessary by the instructor.

Section 13 Describe requirements for ordination, commission, and licensure

In order for an individual to be ordained or licensed through Holy Spirit Ministries, Inc. he/she must complete a two year internship which includes the completing a minimum of four written assignments, as well as perform or teach in any meeting or service as deemed necessary by the instructor.  During this two year internship, the individual must work close to the instructor and show a willingness to learn.  When the minimal two year internship is over the individual must be able to show a love for all people no matter what creed, race, nationality or religion they come from.  They must show knowledge of the Word of God and demonstrate the ability to teach this knowledge to other people.  They must have openness to be corrected and steered by the Word of God and the Spirit of God.  The student must also show knowledge of how to counsel with individuals and when to know refer the individual to a professional if the issues at hand are more than the minister can professionally handle.  They must show that they can live a moral life according to the Word of God in both private and public life. The instructor will be a minister who has completed this course through the said Holy Spirit Ministries, Inc. or someone who has the necessary education to be a competent and knowledgeable instructor.
